Wordfast Anywhere

Wordfast Anywhere

Wordfast Anywhere is a free online translation environment, which we primarily use for translating .txml files from Wordfast. See more information on the Wordfast Anywhere start page here http://www.wordfast.net/index.php?whichpage=anywhere&lang=engb and the online help here http://www.wordfast.net/anywhere/WFA_help.htm.

Launch Wordfast Anywhere from http://anywhere.wordfast.com/.

Supported file formats

Wordfast Anywhere supports file formats TXT, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, HTML, TXML, MIF, INX. It also takes PDF files and can create a decent OCR result, so it's worth trying for that.

TXML is native to Wordfast and the only "unclean" file format Wordfast Anywhere takes.

Creating an account

All users have to create an account using their email address. Go to http://anywhere.wordfast.com/ and click to Register a new account in the Login dialog. Enter your email, select a password and click Create.

Connecting to a remote TM

Connect to a remote TM by going to File > TMs and Glossaries. Close the first dialog Standard TMs and glossaries Setup. In the Wordfast Anywhere configuration dialog, select Specific under Setup languages TM TM glossary.

Copy the remote TM URL into the Server Url field and click Test to test the connection. OK out of the dialog.

Opening an existing TM or termbase or creating one

TMs uploaded to Wordfast Anywhere should be in .tmx format, or as Wordfast TMs (.txt). Glossaries should be simple tabulated text files (.txt) (source + tab + target) or a Wordfast glossary text file (.txt).

Go to File > TMs and Glossaries, and select either the TMs or Glossaries tab depending on what you wish to open or create. Create a new TM or termbase by clicking New. Load an existing TM or termbase by clicking Upload.

General TM settings

You can customise your general TM settings in the Wordfast Anywhere configuration in File > TMs and Glossaries. Commands and rules are very similar to other CAT tools, and you can even customise keyboard shortcuts to what you are used to.

Opening a document

To upload a file for translation, go to File > Upload Document File, browse to the source file and Upload. The document is stored and saved on the Wordfast Anywhere server, not your local computer, all changes and translations are stored on Wordfast Anywhere and the file has to be downloaded from there for final delivery.

Translating a document

Translating a document in Wordfast Anywhere is fairly simple. The document only shows text and tags and if you hover over the shortcut icons you will see what they mean.

You can either use the commands with your mouse via the buttons at the top of the toolbar, or via the Edit, Display and Tools menus.

The translation is automatically saved as you move from one segment to the next as long as you use the Edit commands. The document will stay loaded in Wordfast Anywhere even after you log out, it will open up again when you next log in until you close it from File > Close.

Update the TM before you log out for the day and after you finish your translation from File > Bilingual File Tools > Update TM.

You can run a spellcheck via File > Bilingual File Tools > Spellcheck. If this does not work for your language, use the below download options to download a version of the document and spellcheck with another method (in Word). Implement the changes in the file you have open in Wordfast Anywhere.

QC checking and finalisation

Run a quality control check via File > Bilingual File Tools > Transcheck. You can also QC check a .txml file in Xbench.

There are no tracked changes in Wordfast Anywhere, so finalisation should be done by the revisers.

Downloading a translated document

Once a document has been processed in Wordfast Anywhere, it needs to be downloaded back on to your computer for the next stage, or delivery. You can download the translated document in various formats from the File menu. Select Download Document File for clean target in original uploaded format or bilingual .txml file if the original files were loaded into Wordfast Anywhere as .txml.
