memoQ 8: Translation Memory Editor

The Translation Memory Editor allows you to edit the contents of a TM. It uses a custom ribbon and is opened by clicking Edit when selecting a TM in the translation memories pane in a project or from the Translation memories section of the Resource console.

Opening the Translation Memory Editor will trigger the Filter/Sort dialog (see below). If you don't want to filter the contents, simply press OK to proceed.

  • Import imports a translation memory from TMX format. This function is identical to Import from CSV/TMX command in the translation memories pane in the online project PM window or the Resource console, in the Translation memories dialog of the New memoQ project wizard.
  • Export exports the TM into TMX format. You can also export a subset filtered using Filter/Sort.
  • Properties displays the properties (name and metadata) of the TM. This function is identical to the Properties command in the translation memories panein the online project PM window or the Resource console, in the Translation memories dialog of the New memoQ project wizard.
  • Save Changes confirms the changes you have entered to the TM. For security reasons, the changes you make do not get into the translation memory until you click this button.
  • New creates a new entry to the TM.
  • Delete deletes selected entries in the TM. You can select multiple entries.
  • Replace Metadata allows you to update the metadata of one or several segments.
  • Flag sets a flag icon next to the selected segment.
  • Flag All sets a flag icon next to all segments in the TM or in the current filtered view.
  • Clear Flags removes all flags from the selected segments.
  • Jump To Next Flagged skips to the next flagged segment.
  • All Tags removes all tags, including inline tags, from your TM.
  • Selected Tags allows you to remove all instances of a particular tag from the selected segments.
  • Remove Duplicates triggers a dialog where you can sort out and delete duplicate entries (see window below).
  • Filter/Sort triggers the same filter dialog as when you open the Editor. It allows you to filter or sort the entries. See below.
  • The Duplicates field is only displayed when a duplicate filter is applied. See Removing Duplicates below.
  • Help opens the memoQ help for the Translation Memory Editor.

Removing duplicates

Clicking Show Duplicates opens a filter prompt where you can set critera for what should be considered a duplicate entry and then generate a view where these are filtered. Once the filter is applied, the Duplicates field is added to the Translation Memory Editor ribbon. These functions allow you to navigate the duplicate candidates and decide where to merge or delete particular entries.

Filtering and sorting

The Filter/Sort button opens a dialog where you can filter or sort TM entries based on the criterias of your choice. This dialog is triggered whenever you open a TM for editing, but filters can also be applied later.
