Translation-only
When a project is translation-only, it means there is no second linguist performing revision on it and the translator should check their own work thorougly. If the project includes processing machine translated segments, those should be post-edited to full human quality, unless the project instructions specify something different.
If the project is done in memoQ, the translator needs to make sure to deliver the project correctly.
Revision
Revision (where scheduled) is carried out by a linguist other than the translator and always
includes reading the target translation against the source. Revisers should consult
all the translation instructions, reference material and query answers and ensure
the translation has been carried accordingly. They should ensure that the text
is suitable for its purpose, does not contain any mistranslations, spelling or
grammatical errors, and follows the instructions provided for the project. The
reviser should inform the project manager of any significant issues in the
translation.
If the project is done in memoQ, the reviser needs to follow the memoQ revision workflow and deliver the project correctly.
Finalisation
"Finalisation"
is a term used at Sandberg to denote the last stages of a translation project, where
the finaliser readies the translation files for delivery. The project instructions provided will
specify who has been asked to finalise the project before final delivery. This
will be either the translator, or the reviser, depending on circumstances.
If the project is done in memoQ, the translator and reviser need to follow the memoQ finalisation workflow and deliver the project correctly.
Finalisation done by the reviser
If the project is finalised by the reviser, they should do the following:
make all their revision changes globally in the filesmake sure there are no comments left in the filesrun a final QC and spell checkin the QC checklist, fill in both the “revision” and “finalisation” parts.
Finalisation done by the translator
If the project is finalised by the
translator after the reviser has finished, the translator should do the following:
check the changes the reviser has made and decide whether they agree or disagree with them (the finaliser is free to reject changes they feel inappropriate)ensure all changes have been made globally in the filesmake sure there are no comments left in the filesrun a final QC and spellingin the QC checklist, fill in both the “translation” and “finalisation” parts.
